FAMOUS FIRST APPEARANCE: The Mysterious Mister Myxyztplk
One of Superman's oldest (and most rarely used) enemies is this guy: Mr. Mxyztplk (or Mxyzptlk, depending on your preferred spelling).
Originally introduced as a little bit of comic relief for the series, he's usually quite entertaining when he appears. I think the main reason you barely see him anymore is that today's writers just don't have a sense of humor; also they don't write self-contained stories either. Back during the golden age of comics, humor and short features were both common.
So (as usual) we take a little trip down memory lane, to the corner of nostalgia boulevard, and take a good look at this landmark:
by Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster, and Ira Yarbrough
from SUPERMAN #30, September 1944
