No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
The image above is from AVENGERS #2, November 1963. It serves as the starting point for this story by Dwayne McDuffie and Michael A. Oeming, which presents the tortured character of Bruce Banner(Hulk) in a way that you don't see too often. Simple and straightforward, it presents a look at the man inside the monster without being too overly dramatic like so many other writers seem to do with the Hulk (Stan Lee included).
I have to add that I really love the art on this one. It was a little bit jarring to go from Jack Kirby's art to this style, but overall I feel this sketchy style of painting successfully captures the emotions here.
