Promo Comic

capt00edit

Who doesn't love free comics?
Of course there's usually a catch to getting something for free. With comics it's usually because they're loaded with product placement advertising. Yet notice how very subtle the advertising is in this one. Why you might actually forget what they're pitching (yeah right).

Yeah, apparently Cap'n America steals motorcycles when he's off duty. Guess we learn something new every day.

NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA BATMAN!!!

jpg0

We all love to get free comics, right? Of course we do, that's why the first Saturday in May is the most popular day to go to the comic store.
But if ya keep your eyes and ears open, there's lots of other times and places to score a free comic or two. This particular issue comes from the 2001 International Auto Show. And it has Batman.

Transcribed from an actual OnStar call:
ONSTAR: Hello. Onstar. What's the nature of your problem?
BATMAN: I need a location on the batcycle. Robin's been kidnapped.
ONSTAR: What, again?

Breakfast With Diana

Wondy001

Adding to our ever-growing selection of free and/or promotional comics is this Wonder Woman comic from Post™ cereals, circa 1979. As you'd expect, this isn't the type of story that would win any awards or even get nominated for "best story", but you've gotta admit that a free comic (or free toy or stickers or whatever) in your cereal did make for a good morning. Unless your brother woke up earlier than you and snagged it first.

LEARN FRENCH WITH WONDER WOMAN

This free mini comic was packaged with Honeycomb and Sugar Crisp (mmmm! Sugar Crisp) cereals for the Canadian market.
The most interesting thing about this one is that it's bilingual (English + French).

INTERESTING TRIVIA: Canadian Wonder Woman lives in outer space.
Also worth noting in the first panel, following the line of sight from WW's gaze: she's not even looking at the earth, and her squinting like that makes a sort of double entendre of "high above the earth".

BE X-TRA SAFE

img

From the (almost) never-ending supply of promotional comics, comes this little gem. Triply sponsored by Marvel, Blockbuster Video, and The National Center For Missing And Exploited Children, it's aim is to teach kids about dealing with shady people.
If you're a teacher, day care worker, or work with kids, I reckon you could print this and distribute it freely without breaking any copyright laws. (You might make a few calls first to see if free copies of this or other comics are still available in bulk orders from NCMEC).
