Teenage Manga Ninja Turtles

jpg0

You sometimes get strange results when you mash up Eastern (ninjas) and Western (super heroes) cultural genres. And there's barely ever been a better example than Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But what happens when somebody decides to reverse the mash up and do an Eastern version?
I think this here comic tells us the answer. It's the manga version of the turtles, complete with magic fairies and everything.
Read on, unbeliever. And I shouldn't have to tell ya's, but manga reads right to left (as if ya'll didn't know), and also this is a scanlation.

Nice upgrade, huh? Well, Bebop and Rocksteady also have an upgrade (and it actually looks good for them):

Before it's all said and done, the turtles still have to face their worst enemy, the ultimate Digimon SHREDDER:

This is merely a preview. Nice guy that I am, I uploaded the whole 100 page insanity for your viewing pleasure (from the gallery, you can use the 'next' and 'previous' buttons to click through the story):

I also left the scanners' tag as the last page so y'all can visit their website and see what else they have to offer. You're welcome.

MODERN LIFE

Hoshi Shin'ichi was a sci-fi/fantasy writer famous for really short fiction works. He produced over a thousand of these, beginning in the 1960s, until his death in 1997. Starting in 2001, the shoujo weekly MYSTERY BONITA began adapting his work into manga with various artists working on the different stories.
This is from the first of the collected volumes (of which I've only seen two so far get scanlated). As usual, this was translated and scanned by hobbyists, and not otherwise 'officially' available in English.
Scans courtesy of "/a/nonymous". All credit and gratitude should be directed at him/her/them.

TO MY CHILDREN by The Nishioka Siblings

img

We barely ever look at manga here (mainly because there's a boatload of specifically manga scan sites already), but I really think this is one of the best scanlations I've seen in quite awhile. Subtle, thought-provoking, and timeless. This is one you'll enjoy reading more than once. Twelve stories in all, and they're all good. Almost poetic in their simplicity of narrative style.
Full (186 page) scan provided by The Kotonoha Team.

LOOK ME IN THE EYES WHEN YOU TALK

imagebam.com
"After getting beaten up by a bunch of thugs, an apathetic man who is afraid of looking other people in the eyes wakes up in the hospital, only to discover to his horror that he literally can’t see other people’s eyes." - synopsis by KOTONOHA

This is one of those stories that makes me happy that we have the internet, mainly because it's not yet available in any 'official' english translation. It justs begs for the question, though; "WHY?".
Acres upon acres of trees are being destroyed to bring us the the latest issue of the [ENGLISH] version of SHONEN JUMP, yet truly awesome manga like this just gets left untranslated. It's a shame, in my opinion.

Story & Art: Hitoshi Iwaaki

First Published In: Ace Tokunō Vol. 1 (Kadokawa Shoten)

And while we're on the subject here, how do you guys feel about "scanlations"? Do you think they harm or help sales of foreign comics in English-speaking countries, and why?
As for myself, I would totally buy a stack of Shintaro Kago books if they ever get released in English, and that's only because I've read them online; on the flip side, I know a lot of people reading NARUTO online rather than purchasing the official English versions. I guess you could say I'm divided on the issue.
