Weird War Tale

Elopement000

Some things you don't see much of nowadays; war comics for starters, and even rarer, war comics written and drawn by legendary talents.
Lansdale is an award-winning novelist and short story writer, while Glanzman has as much history illustrating comics as five other artists put together.
Click on their names for more info, but first have a look at this:

Quite an interesting little genre-bender there, I thought. Not just a simple war story at all, it managed to work in a little romance and supernatural horror as well. Too bad that we don't see such well crafted short pieces very often. I seriously believe that most of the current hacks in the industry can't write any story that takes up less than twenty issues. They could learn from this.
Just my opinion, take it or leave it, folks.

Aliens VS Predator VS Dracula

img0

Y'all like a little humor mixed in with your horror? I hope so, 'cause that's what you're getting this time around.
The premise here is simple: the 'classic' Universal monsters are out to destroy the Aliens and Predator.

ROADKILL

RoadKill000

Here's another tale of terror for y'all. Once again from the classic yet short-lived series from the now defunct Eclipse comic company. Not exactly sure why anthologies always have a shorter life-span than regular continuing series, but I guess that's the nature of the game; western readers seem to prefer much longer stories, I guess.
This story here is one that most definitely has it's roots firmly planted in the old EC tradition. All that's missing is a creepy narrator to make a bad pun at the end. But it works just as well without it.

Eyes In The Darkness

EyesInDarkness000

In this tale of terror, the real monster is not the paranormal one, but rather one of the regular kind of human evil.
Not all supernatural monsters have to be scary, do they?

GAME PRESERVE by CUTI and STATON

GamePreserve000

"Professor Coffin was one of the last titles to be printed by Charlton Comics. It was basically another horror anthology title, but with all-new stories. The book sported a framing device in the form of the title character's misadventures with his niece Arachne, specifically their encounters with the supernatural. Prof. Cyrus Coffin was a character who first appeared in Charlton's Midnight Tales title.
Prof. Coffin lasted only three issues; this was part of a 'last gasp' before the Charlton company went out of business completely. Consequently, this is one of the smaller-print-run titles that are difficult and expensive to locate now. (Not that you'd want to.)"
--- POP-CULT dot COM

Thank you, Pop-Cult dot Com for that. I hate having to explain things that have already been explained. It is just so much easier to do the 'copy/paste' thingy.
With that in mind, here's one of those stories that the previously quoted website claimed that weren't worth tracking down. I disagree. This story here is one of the wackiest sci-fi-horror-romance genre-benders I've seen in my life.

JOHNNY PERIL: Death Has Five Guesses

Johnny Peril, mystery man and thrill-seeker. Never heard of him? Well allow me to introduce you to one of the lost golden age adventurers.
This appearance is a reprint of a much older story, and I think that DC at the time was trying to revive the character since he had as many appearances in the 70s as he did in his original run (though they were mostly reprints). With DC trying to update and upgrade their line of comics, we may yet see him again.
Read on.
