GOBLINS

This is another scanlation that I stumbled across on a random site. I couldn't find any google links for an 'official' English translation, so I guess there isn't one. Why are there so few companies that release Euro-Comics in English and so many that do mangas? I don't know.
I guess we should feel lucky that there are dedicated fans willing to translate this stuff for free. Who knows; these same fans may one day start an actual publishing company and get the English rights to the bande dessinee that they've translated.

Anyhoo, this is a simple kind of series, it's just one-page gag strips about some goblins that live in the woods. Even if you don't usually read or watch any fantasy series, you'll get the jokes.

MERCENARIO

The thing about any non-English comix that I find is simple; I can't actually read this stuff. English is the only language that I can comprehend.

With this one, I get the gist of the story (even with my pathetic Spanish comprehension). It's about a "mercenario" (mercenary).

Unless I've went full-on stupid, which is always a possibility, the 'contract hit' here in this story is based on political motivations. But, as I said, my Spanish ain't so good.

Regardless of what it's about, I absolutely love this art.

Something Else

NOT a scanlation.
This is a sample of an American publisher trying to cash in on the EuroComic market.
Published by DC, and translated by some random people that they had on staff at the time, here's a sample of how awesome the comic market would be if they stopped focusing on 'popular' titles, and started focusing on comics that are good.
SERIOUSLY: Art Spiegelman's "MAUS" would be the first choice for people to dismiss because of 'crappy art' (and it does look like the art was done by a little kid, but that's the point); and those people would miss out on a great story. Likewise, don't dismiss this vignette because it starts out in black-and-white. Like the WIZARD OF OZ, it goes into color at the appropriate time.
Like most EuroComics, the standard warnings for sexuality apply.

IMPORTED ADULT HUMOR

Another interesting find from my online scanlation friends.
This time around, a collection of one page strips from a Dutch language magazine that centers on "adult" type humor. As is usual with these things, the majority of this book has excessive nudity and sexuality. I've only chosen 8 of the 43 strips in this volume, because I'm not advocating any more porn on the internet (honestly, there's already enough of it already).
Before you scroll down, I warn you, there's a panel with cartoon boobies, a panel with a cartoon butt, and some suggestive situations throughout.... If any will offend you, it's best you leave now. If not, then I hope you find these as funny as I did.

A Trip To The Dentist

Showing influences from all the past masters of the comic medium (Alex Toth, Milton Caniff, Will Eisner), Jordi Bernet's work really stands out in black and white. I love his full color comics also, but you can really see the spirit of the old newspaper cartoonists when you view his work with just the inks. Especially of note is his mastery of faces and subtle body language. And, though it's not represented in this short feature, he can really draw the sexy women.
The name of the book is DARK TALES (HISTORIETAS NEGRAS), but they're not all purely horror stories. Besides this humorous outing we're looking at here, there's a western, several war stories, and a sci-fi short included. Good stuff.

The Headlights Gang

This is another one of those comics that are, as of this posting, still not otherwise available in English. Thank Heavens for the internet! And thank God for scanlaters, without whose generous contributions of their time and effort we would never see any of the really great European and Asian comics. THANKS EVERYBODY!
This particular book is a throwback to the old EC comics just as much as it's a throwback to the old Warren line of magazines, complete with a weird narrator and all. And when I say weird, I mean it ( it's hinted in the third story that the narrator was actually the killer himself).
This volume has four different 'urban legends', all of which I've heard before but that didn't make it any less enjoyable. It's really about the art and the pacing in this volume that hooks you. You know the ending is coming, but you're still willing to go along for the ride.
If you read French, you can order this from DARGAUD's website (costs about ten euros); if not, me and you both will just have to wait for the English version to come around.
