Sunday Funnies:DENNIS THE MENACE

teaser-jpg

I know by now, having read through tons of these old Dennis comics, that Hank Ketchum had little or nothing to do with them. So, does this still count as being part of the comic strip legacy? My answer is YES. Toole and Wiseman should be credited for developing the character just as much as Ketchum, in my opinion.
Take this short story as an example. Not only is it hilarious, but also the characters and art are spot-on-perfect for what you'd see in the newspapers during the same period of time.
If the truth would ever be told, Wiseman pretty much set the standard for drawing Dennis 'on-model' all of the time (and also, can you tell this story wasn't done by Ketchum himself? That's good 'ghosting').

Sunday Funnies: DENNIS THE MENACE

They did quite a few of the giant sized Dennis comics over the years, but I find that the earliest ones are the funniest. I'm not sure if this was the first Christmas themed story, but it's done well. Also of note is how good Al Wiseman was at ghosting Hank Ketcham.
